Pizza Hut Book It Reading Program!!!

Monthly reading logs are to be kept in your child's homework folder.  Reading each night is monitored by the teachers using the reading log.  I ask that you write the number of minutes each night that your child reads.  At the end of each week, total the minutes and at the and of each month tally the weekly minutes.  This program will definitely help your child if he or she reads each night.  I ask that when you record the minutes that you are honest with the times your child has read.  As they they say, "The proof is in the pudding".  The more your child reads, the better he or she will become at reading.  During the month of January, each student will be assessed on their reading level.  I am excited because I know many children have definitely blossomed as great readers.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Thank you,

EOCCS' Book Fair

Next week EOCCS kicks off our first book fair of the school year.  Our class will go Monday morning, December 6th to view the books.  As we view, the children are actually 'window shopping' and creating their shopping lists.  Tuesday morning, we will go to the book fair to shop for books.  If you would like for your child to purchase books, feel free to send money in an envelope with your child's name on it.

Thank you,
Miss N. Jones

Math HELP!!

This week, we began working on the concept of subtraction.  I ask that you monitor your child when doing the homework to be sure that they are subtracting.  They had such a great time with addition  (and mastering the concept) that their brains want to continue to add.  We've talked about the importance of paying attention to the symbols in our number sentences and how it determines if we get the right answer.
Thank you for all of your help,
Miss N. Jones

DROP EVERYTHING AND WRITE

October 14, 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians,
October is National Family Month!  October 20th is National Day of Writing!
October 20th we will ‘DROP EVERYTHING AND WRITE!’   Students will have an authentic purpose for writing by responding to a letter from you.  In order to make this school-wide activity a success, we need for you to do 2 things.
Ø We are asking that you write a letter to your child on the left side of the paper provided.
Ø Send the letter back to school in the envelope provided by Tuesday, October 19th.
Your child’s teacher will collect the letters in preparation of the writing event on October 20th.  Your child will respond to your letter during the ‘Drop Everything and Write’ event.  We anticipate your cooperation in this writing activity so that all students will have a letter to respond to.
P.S.  You will have a writing piece from your child that you can have for years to come!
Thank you,
First Grade Teachers J
